Located in the rolling hills of north
central Texas about 50 miles north east of Dallas, Texas sits the small
farming community of Blue Ridge, Texas. Blue Ridge is country living with
friendly folks and yes Friday night high school football is a big deal
here in this sleepy little community. Blue Ridge has several churches and
a very good school district. The
surrounding area is farming and livestock land with green pastures, streams
and in the spring a multitude of wild flower colors.
I've recently
been asked by some of the Blue Ridge business owners to help come
up with some sketches of what the downtown area might look like after a
facade-lift. The idea was to return to what the downtown square looked
like back sixty years ago as shown in this photograph, only better. So we
visited the downtown square, took some photographs, spoke to a few of the
business owners, took notes of the history of what each building once was, and thought how it can return to the quaint small Texas
town it once was with a Movie Theater right on the square. Click on the
photo to the left to see a larger image.

Here is a photo composite of the south
side of the Blue Ridge Downtown Square as it looks today.
Compare this to
the black & white photo above. The Rita is the Movie Theater.

Here is my sketch of the proposed new facade of the south side of the
square using suspended awnings, cast-iron stars, the aluminum siding
removed and freshly painted brick. Click on any image to see a larger
